Strung Out Interview
This interview was made in Paris the 5th of Mai 2005.
Laureline has met Chris the Bass player.

This is not the first time that you play on the Deconstruction Tour. Have you noticed any differences compared to the last editions?

The line up changed except for Boysetsfire and it's cool to play again with them. This tour is awesome with Strike Anywhere, Mad Caddies, Only Crime. It's a great tour; we have a lot of fun, like the others!

Do you have good relation with the others bands?
Definitely yeah, that's why this tour is so much fun. We are all friends and this is very cool. It's going to be a good time and it's only the first show!

Which band do you feel closer musically on this tour?
It's hard to say, but I would say Strike Anywhere and Boysetsfire. I love playing with the Mad Caddies, it's one of my favourite band to play with. All those guys are amazing!

Do you prefer to play on this kind of tour or in more intimate venue?
I definitely prefer playing here with this whole package of bands. It's a great tour and it's the kind of help that we need. We need to tour and not only by ourselves. Here so many kids can discover other bands and it's great!

About "Exile in Oblivion" Cover art, how did you get the idea of such an original CD booklet?
Hum, our singer would answer in a better way actually! He really likes all the work of the artist that made the cover art. It's a piece of one of her paint. She is a really talented artist but I can't remember her name actually! All her drawing and painting speak by themselves.

You evolved to a more aggressive music with screamed voices and the energy of punk rock. Is this the direction you wanted to go and are you satisfied of the result?
We are never 100% satisfied with a record; we always wanted to do better! I think this is definitely our best record. We are working on doing better songs now and I hope our next record will be even better!

Is there any message or concept behind the title and the lyrics?
I think there is a kind of concept through the record, we all wrote the lyrics and the music together!

What is your favourite Strung Out song and the one you regret to have written?
I love playing all our songs, I love playing the new songs live. I like playing "Vampires" and "To close to see".

Have you ever thought to leave Fat Record and have you ever had any proposition from another label?
You know what, there always have propositions here and there but nothing ever happened. We are on Fat since so many times, but few years ago we had some propositions from a label but fat came with the best deal and they were the best to work with! We liked them and do not want to change now! We stay with the family!

What do you think about bands like Good Charlotte and Sum 41?
It's definitely bat that people listen to radio or MTV which says what sounds cool or not! People should listen whatever they want to listen to and do not be influenced by the media who categorize the music, the people …

If you have the opportunity to change one thing in the world, what would it be?
Hum, I would sell like milk shakes in Taco Bell's restaurant! (Laughs)

When you were a kid, have you ever thought about playing here in Europe and in Japan?
No, I was more about dreaming playing guitar as my work! I always wanted to this, and I know in the back of my head that I will do it! Now I am a bass player and I travel all around the world! It is just crazy and I won't change this for anything!

With whom would you like to tour, still alive band or not?
Hum, I would like to tour with Elvis Presley, Jimmy Hendrix or Ozzy Osbourne with Zack Wylde playing guitar, it would be awesome!
